Cinque Terre

Last week, over 80 students took part in the AIFS daytrip to the Ligurian Coast and Cinque Terre. Thankfully the sun was shining as the coach descended the twisty road down to the Northern most town, Monterosso.

As the name suggests, Cinque Terre consists of 5 small towns clinging to a spectacular coast line.  For centuries Farmers and Fishermen worked the area, by necessity walking between the towns.  Today you can follow in their footsteps by hiking the same trails...

However, sadly due to heavy rain and erosion, many of the trails were officially closed.  So we had to make do with the local train that connects the towns.

A few brave souls went for a swim, happy that there were no sharks.  However some of the rocks do have sharp edges, as a couple of students found out.

Otherwise the beach was calling and it was time to appreciate and reflect on life in Italy...
