Sunday Evening, over 100 students from Washington State and Northern California went with AIFS to see a Serie A football game. It was the local team Fiorentina versus the current league leaders AC Milan.
An almost full house was full of anticipation...
Well done to Alex, chief flag waver...
Fernando, far left said he painted his own face...
Spot the AIFS students smiling but also the Florentines not too happy with the score...
Heres the reason why!
Nearly all of the students made the effort to wear Viola coloured clothing, with a few painting their faces. Almost 40 000 fans were inside the ground.
Sadly, AC Milan justified their position as league leaders and were too strong for La Viola. Fiorentina tried hard during the second half and pulled a goal back.
With a few minutes to go, one of AC Milans best players Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off for abusing a linesman. He claimed that he was swearing to himself but I can give a first hand account that his abuse was directed at an official!
There was 4 minutes of added time for injuries but sadly the game ended 2-1 and victory for Milan. This didn't stop the students enjoying the occasion. The next home game is versus bitter rivals Juventus, always a lively fixture.
