Viareggio Carnevale

On Sunday, 90 students joined AIFS staff on a daytrip to Viareggio.  During the Summer, many Italian families visit the seaside and enjoy the beach, however every February/March it is the place to be for Carnevale - Tuscan Style!

This time, we let the train take the strain.  Its useful to get the students familar with the public transport around Tuscany.

Unfortunately we were greeted by Grey Skies.  Luckily the rain held off, it was really cold though.

Viareggio Carnevale has always had floats about Politics and Current affairs.  Silvio Belusconi always features.

and its not just Italian Politics...

Flea Circus!?

There are smaller displays as well.  Marcello Lippi was the Italian Soccer Team manager when Italy won the World Cup in 2006.  He comes from Viareggio.  He was treated as a hero with his very own full size float.  Last year, Italy were knocked out early on, so he is no longer so poular.  The new manager is now on top of him, with the sign "Work in Progress".

The skills of the craftsmen are plain to see.  Carnevale continues until Tuesday 8th March.  Fat Tuesday!
