Italy in the News...

Its not just events in Egypt or Lady GaGas Grammy costume that have been hitting headlines lately, Italy has also been in the news.

Firstly there is an influx of Tunisian refugees descending on the tiny Italian island of Lampedusa.  This island is actually closer to mainland Africa than Italy, a combination of good sailing weather and the political situation in Tunisia has resulted in over 4000 people making the journey.  The full story is here from the BBC.

Also in the news are the huge demonstations that took place across Italy on Sunday.  The streets of all the major cities, including Florence, were full of people protesting at the current scandal involving the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi.  The protesters feel it is time for him to leave office.  Full story here.

However, its not all politics and policy.  The BBC has also just published a good article about the perfect trip to Tuscany.  The first two places it recommends are San Gimignano and Siena, which just so happen to be the locations of our next daytrip on Friday 25th February (spaces still available).  Have a read and if you fancy going, please come into the office and sign up.

Have a great evening and buon San Valentino!
