Its Week Four already, Monday has dawned bright and Sunny here in Florence and all is well. Forty students went with AIFS to Venice and Verona this past weekend, to explore, enjoy and be educated. Luckily the sun was shining, despite it still being February.
It was a couple of hours driving North before we got our first glimpse of Verona, beautifully framed by the Dolomite Mountains behind, after spliting into two groups, it was straight into the famous Arena.
The Arena is still in use today, regularly holding modern day music concerts as well as a Summer Opera season. Once again the students wanted to live in Verona (last week it was Lucca).
Then it was onto the courtyard of Juliets House (Casa di Giulietta), with a certain balcony above their heads...
We always encourage students to respect traditions... This one in particular was very popular. It is said that if you rub the Right breast of the statue of Juliet, you will be lucky in Love. Maybe we will keep an eye on these students during the semester?
Another tradition is writing your messages of love on the wall. After years of damage, the authorities have erected these wooden panels for this purpose, thus saving the original walls of the building.
After the guided tour, there was plenty of time to eat, explore and shop. We all met up next to the Arena before heading East to Venice.
